Two Boots Pioneer Closes

Sadly, the East Village’s Two Boots Pioneer Theater just closed with a Halloween night screening of Night of the Living Dead. They gave my first film Frankensteins Bloody Nightmare a week-long run in 2006 and for that I shall be eternally gratetful to both Ray and the ole’ Pioneer.

I was there for the week of FBN (along with some of the other films that screened around it) and what I saw was really pure class. The Pioneer could screen 16mm, 35mm or video, and I’ve been to more than a few festivals and smaller theatres where the video projection is handled really haphazardly but in the case of Pioneer it all seemed to go relatively smoothly and I was impressed by the little details such as the interesting choice of entry music, which changed given the type of film they were showing.

So I hope in the future something can come of the place and I hope that the adjoining video store with the big Swinger’s Massacre poster keeps going as well.
